There is a particular pleasure in walking into an art supply store without knowing what you’ll make. At Spread Supplies in Bremerton’s Charleston District, that possibility is part of the point. Reama Schuldt has built a place for new and used materials, second chances, and people who might not otherwise think of themselves as artists.
Reama sees creativity in the streets as much as on the shelves. She created the Murals in Kitsap map so anyone can find public art and discover the neighborhoods and people around it. One of the moments she remembers most is the mural beneath the Wycoff Pass: more than 100 neighbors showed up to help paint it. The finished wall matters, but so does the act of making it together.
“There’s art everywhere I look — and that feels special,” she told us for our Tideland story. Her view of Bremerton goes beyond a pretty wall. “We need places where we don’t live a mainstream lifestyle,” she said. An affordable set of supplies, a welcoming shop and a public map all make a little more room for someone to try.

On a gray afternoon, begin at Spread Supplies, 641 N Callow Avenue. Pick up something to draw with, then let Reama’s map lead you through Charleston and beyond. You can also look for the community mural near the Wycoff Pass at 11th Street. Bring a sketchbook; take your time; stop somewhere nearby for a warm drink. This is a Bremerton afternoon that rewards curiosity more than a packed schedule.
