At the downtown end of the Manette Bridge, a squid with a lightbulb catches your eye. “Squid Bulb” is Sam Enlow’s way of putting a little wonder into an ordinary crossing. It feels right for an artist whose work is woven into Bremerton’s everyday life.
Sam founded Fingers Duke in 2010. Her downtown design and screen-printing studio sells apparel, prints and work by Northwest artists, giving visitors something made with a real connection to this place. She also helps organize Bremerton’s First Friday Art Walk. To her, the best work grows when people spend time together: “Our best art happens when we collaborate,” she told us for Tideland.
She calls Bremerton’s generous community builders “super nerds.” It is an affectionate description for the people who create places to gather, share an idea and make the next thing possible. In the quieter months, you can feel that energy in a shop, gallery or café before an evening of art begins.
Find “Squid Bulb” near the downtown approach to the Manette Bridge, then stop by Fingers Duke, 523 Fourth Street. For the fullest introduction, make your visit a First Friday Art Walk evening. Galleries and neighborhood businesses stay in the story after the workday ends. Browse, eat dinner, and stay overnight instead of watching the clock for a ride home.
