A Day in Suquamish and Bainbridge with Family

Waking up in Suquamish is a special experience, one I cherish with my husband, Christopher, and our Cockapoo pup, Elliott. As the sun rises over the clear saltwater, with Mt. Rainier in the distance, we often spot a bald eagle soaring above or an otter playing along the shoreline. These moments remind us how fortunate we are to call Kitsap County home.

Our perfect day begins with a peaceful morning walk through the quaint community of Suquamish. The crisp air, and the beauty of the natural surroundings set the tone for the day ahead. With Elliott alongside us, we typically make our way across Agate Passage to charming Bainbridge Island.

Once on Bainbridge, we love starting our day at Waterfront Park. It’s a beautiful spot to take in the scenic views of the harbor, and Elliott enjoys exploring the area. As we walk along Winslow Way, the community comes alive with locals and visitors. The sound of the ferry horn in the background adds to the vibrant atmosphere, making it a truly welcoming place.
For lunch, we’re spoiled for choice, but often find ourselves drawn to a local café or a cozy spot for a glass of wine. Bainbridge Island is home to some fantastic wineries, and Eleven Winery is a favorite. The friendly environment and excellent wine selection make it a must-visit for any wine lover.
As evening approaches, we have a few favorite ways to spend our time. If we’re in the mood for culture, we head to Bainbridge Performing Arts for one of their stellar productions. On more relaxed nights, we return to Suquamish for a nightcap at Sully’s or grab a slice of pizza from Salty Bird Café.
Living in Kitsap County as a gay couple, we’re grateful for the area’s inclusivity. The Suquamish Tribal Council’s early recognition of same-sex marriage speaks to the region’s progressive values. Kitsap is not only a safe and welcoming place for the LGBTQ+ community but also a vibrant destination for visitors.
Whether you’re exploring the natural beauty of Suquamish and Bainbridge Island, supporting LGBTQ+ and allied businesses along the way, this area offers a unique blend of serenity and community spirit. It’s a place where respecting the land and its people leads to a truly enriching experience.
